2014 UCA Year in review

Public safety boxing put an exclamation point on 2014 with some amazing events and great fights. The fighters are transitioning into a new breed of super athlete that is elevating boxing and showing how far public safety boxing has evolved. The various Battle of the Badges events throughout California this year gave fans excitement, anticipation, high skill level fights, unpredictable outcomes, undiscovered talent, new challengers, and new champions. The Battle of the Badges is the biggest amateur boxing event with capacity crowds reaching between 1000-4000 for each show. The Battle of the Badges continues to expand by bringing out more fans and the next generation of fighters. With the popularity of public safety boxing, fans and fighters have to be excited about the 2015 season.

UCA Promoter of the Year 

DSC_3992 (800x521)Mike Young, (LASD Retired) put on two of the biggest events of the year. The LA Battle of the Badges featured the biggest names in public safety boxing and made for one of the most talent stacked cards of recent years.  The card featured 4 UCA State Championship Title fights and future championship contenders.  Two months later Mr. Young out did himself with a bigger crowd and more exciting fights at the Fight for Life event which benefited the City of Hope Children’s Hospital.

Event of the Year

The Central California Battle of the Badges turned out to be a major magnitude event. It was the first Battle of the Badges to be held in Central California. The doors were blown off from the excitement and energy in the auditorium. The show was a huge success and has now become an annual event.

2014 UCA Fighter of the Year

A fighter who directly impacts Public Safety boxing by the way he/she performs in the ring. ADSC_4147 (482x800) fighter that stood out from the rest and proved they are the best by challenging and defeating the toughest opponents.

Laura Morales, Fresno Probation and Deirdre Fonseca, LAPD arrived seemingly out of nowhere during last year’s Central California Battle of the Badges. They put on a memorable performance to become the newest top females in public safety boxing. (Central Cal Battle of the Badges 4-19-14)
