Cleon Jones, UCA Super Heavyweight Champion (155) (476x800)In a stunning development, the Super Heavyweight State Champion Cleon Jones, Yolo County Sheriff’s Dept. withdraws from the October 11, 2014 Battle of the Badges main event. Cleon Jones was scheduled to make the second defense of his UCA title against #1 ranked Mike Gomez, CDCR, CHCF but suffered an injury in training and was forced to pull out of the fight. Due to this unforeseen development the UCA is put into a position to adjust the rankings and announce a new division.

Moving forward into the 2015 boxing season the UCA will be creating a Masters Division. The UCA Masters Division will go beyond commonly accepted boundaries of Public Safety boxing and provide a division for boxers 40 years old and over. Due to the increased interest in fighters competing over the age of 40, it has become necessary to create this division to ensure even matches and fighter safety. Masters boxers will compete against other Masters boxers and have the same opportunity to fight for the UCA Championship Title as open fighters.

Hoping to fill the vacancy and bring home the belt will be #1 ranked Mike Gomez, CDCR, CHCF or 9th ranked Chris Lewis, Fresno County Sheriff’s Dept. on October 11, 2014 at the Battle of the Badges.  Lewis agreed to take the Super Heavyweight title fight, replacing Jones with only two weeks’ notice. Lewis is ready to take full advantage of his title fight opportunity; in fact the timing couldn’t be better. Lewis has been in the gym training and sparring for a Muay Thai fight later this month. Gomez will have to switch his focus from Jones to Lewis and prepare for an orthodox fighter instead of a southpaw which Jones is. The fans are in for an exciting fight that is just as compelling as the original. Both fighters are phenomenal athletes and hungry to prove they are the best. Tickets are on sale now. General $25.00, Ringside $40.00. Doors open at 5pm. Red lion Woodlake Hotel, 500 Leisure Lane, Sacramento California.
