2011 UCA Event of the Year-                                          SoCal Battle of the Badges

The SoCal Battle of the Badges Event is put on 4 to 5 times per year. These events are well run and very organized. The fights are entertaining and the events always sell out. Events are held at Pechanga, Morongo and Pala Indian Casinos.

 

2011 UCA Promoter of the Year– Jeff Penn

Jeff Penn is the promoter of the SoCal Battle of the Badges. Jeff has a lot of experience putting on these events and it shows by how organized they are. His focus and drive for putting on these events is to raise money for the “Cops 4 Kids & Communities” and other organizations that benefit Southern California youth.

Candy joined the San Jose Police Department in 1976. Candy was a member of the San Jose Police Department Soccer team for 19 years winning 1 Silver and 5 Bronze medals. As impressive as that is, it pales to his numerous boxing career titles and other sporting accomplishments. He is the only California Police Olympic competitor to win Gold medals in 3 different decades, the 70’s, the 80’s and the 90’s and the only California Police Olympic competitor to be undefeated over an extended career. Candy was a member of the Police Amateur Athletic Foundation Board of Directors from 1983 – 2005, serving a term as Vice-President. For his outstanding Boxing talents in the California Police Olympics, for his outstanding coaching talents with youth in the community, for his outstanding coaching talents with Santa Clara University and San Jose State University and for his outstanding coaching talents with the United States Olympic Team, Sgt. Candy Lopez is inducted into the Police Amateur Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame.

The contracts have been signed, the fight has been approved and the belt and gloves have been ordered. The first UCA title fight will take place at the Sacramento Battle of the Badges Event, March 31st, 2012 in Rancho Cordova California.

The best in Northern California, UCA #1 ranked  James “Doin Damage” Davis, from CDCR Folsom Prison will take on  Juan “Bad Blood” Bustamante from LAPD for the UCA Light Heavyweight Title.  Juan Bustamante has been competing at 190lbs and is dropping down to 175lbs to challenge Davis for the title. Both guys feel they have what it takes to win.

Davis trains at Smash Time Boxing Gym in Sacramento. He  spars heavyweights and lightweights. In other words, he is sparring anyone and everyone  to  prepare for the title fight.  Davis will be having a tune up fight Feb 11th in Vacaville.

Bustamante trains at 818 Boxing Club in Pacoima and LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division Boxing Gym. As the fight approaches Juan will travel to Wild Card, Oxnard, and Lancaster for sparring. Juan will also be having a tune up fight on Feb 4th in LA.

SO-CAL Battle-of-the-Badges in partnership with Badgefights Combat League will commence with it’s New World Hero MMA Fight League. and Boxing Tournament March 3, 2012 at Pala Casino. The World Hero Fight Series will provide the fighters with championship titles, purses for championship bouts, and national/world rankings. World Hero Fight Series will be for the benefit of fallen warrior and disadvantaged youth causes.
