UCA Countdown

Posted In Blog

57 days until fight time and both fighters are training hard for their UCA Light Heavyweight State Title Fight March 31st. James Davis and Juan Bustamante bring different styles to the fight. Davis is a work horse, a Joe Frazier type fighter. Always coming forward, wearing you down, digging shots to the body, elbows, and shoulders. Then going to the head.  Bustamante has fast hands, one punch knock out power and can also move and box. This is definitely a pick-em fight. One thing is for sure, the only thing holding them back from the UCA title, is each other.

James Davis is new to the sport of boxing. He had his first fight May 21st 2010 and hasn’t stopped training or fighting since. He fought in the 2011 NorCal Golden Gloves Tournament and will be competing in the 2012 Golden Gloves Tournament. Davis is a student of the game. He has fought guys heavier, guys with more experience and win or lose he chalks it up as a learning experience.  Regardless of the outcome March 31st, Davis will continue to train and learn. His goal is to become a successful professional fighter. Davis knows he has to test himself against the best fighters out there before he turns pro. March 31st will be a good test for him.

One thing about Juan Bustamante going into the fight is that he will not have a problem with nerves or fighting on the big stage. He is use to being the main event and fighting in the Big Shows. Juan has traveled to New York to fight NYPD’s finest fighters. In 2009 he fought in (Boxing Hall of Fame Treasurer) Josie Mejia’s Outdoor Boxing Event in Bell Gardens and on a Fox Sports Boxing televised event. Most memorable, Juan fought for Oscar DeLaHoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. The Golden Boy Promoted Event was held at Club Nokia. Bustamante battled UCA #1 ranked, pound for pound fighter, Chris Barrios in the Main Event. Both guys gave everything they had, Barrios picked up the win by decision.

Barrios Battles Bustamante on Feb. 24, 2011 ‘Fight Night Club’

LOS ANGELES, February 11th 2011 – Paid to protect and serve the members of their communities, a select group of Southern California’s finest law enforcement officers will enter the boxing ring with the intention to hit and not be hit. The Battle of the Badges Boxing Event will be featured on the season premiere of “Fight Night Club” at L.A. LIVE’s Club Nokia.

In the featured amateur attraction, it will be a highly anticipated rematch, when Chris “The Bull” Barrios, from the L.A. Sheriff Department, IRC Division, battles Juan “Bad Blood” Bustamante of the LAPD Foothill Division in a bout in the 200-pound division that is a rematch of a past fight and has already caused excitement in both officers’ departments. There is so much buzz surrounding the fight that the LAPD has dubbed this fight “Barrios vs. Bustamante II.”

“We are excited to have a ‘Battle of the Badges’ to kick off the 2011 season of ‘Fight Night Club’,” said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “These officers risk their lives everyday protecting us and I’m proud to have them competing on a Golden Boy Promotions show. I can’t wait to watch them battle it out in the ring to see which is the toughest department in LA.”
