ThJune-Postere Central Coast Battle of the Badges 3 Cops vs Cancer goes down Saturday night at the Faternal Order of Eagles Private Club in Santa Maria; CA. 14 bouts are scheduled featuring fighters from California Men’s Colony Prison and local police agencies. Come out and support this great line up of action as the proceeds benefit the Fight to Knockout Cancer and the Employee Benefit Fund. Tickets are only $20.00, meal included, tri tip sandwich, chips, soda or water. Kids 10 & under are free. Music provided by Smooth Groovz (DJ Artie) & Letzdance Mobile DJ (P. ucaboxing (1070) (800x425)The Central Coast Battle of the Badges 3 was held Saturday night at the Faternal Eagles Of Santa Maria.The fighters fought their hearts out in front of family members, friends, supporters and coworkers. The fans were on their feet most of the night cheering on the fighters as they went toe to toe from bell to bell.  It was an incredible event and would not have been possible without event promoter/fighter Terry Cook, CDCR CMC, the volunteers and the generous donation from CCPOA. The Battle of the Badges is in the books.  Next year’s event takes place Saturday June 4, 2016. Start training!

autism poster2015The 2nd Annual Knocking Out Autism Boxing event takes place Friday June 19, 2015.  The fighters from Los Angeles are putting themselves through grueling work outs as they prepare for the monumental challenge of taking on the NYPD Boxing Team in their home state of New York. The line up from Los Angeles is mixed with some veterans and beginners. The fighters will be under the guidance of Coach Jorge Caamal, LASD and Rudy Barragan, LAPD. It all goes down Friday June 19, 2015 at the Lexington Ave Armory 26 Street, Lexington Ave, New York. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are $25.00. Proceeds benefit the Autism Foundation.

TJosh Webb, CHP (104) (524x800)he 3rd ranked undefeated Super Cruiserweight Josh Webb, CHP returns to the ring this Saturday in a USA boxing show. When asked about his opponent for this Saturday’s fight Josh said, “I don’t know his name but he is 20 years old, has 7 fights and fights out of Caballeros Gym.” Despite having less experience Webb is in great shape and coming into this fight with momentum and confidence, winning his last three fights. On Saturday ucaboxing (383) - Copy - Copy (800x556)UCA 3rd ranked, Josh Webb, CHP (205lbs, 28, 3-0) competed in a USA Boxing amateur event at Caballero’s Boxing Gym in Sacramento. Webb was matched against tough fighter Hernan Coronel, from Caballero’s Gym (205lbs, 23, 4-3). When the bell sounded to start the first round Webb got off to a quick start moving well and using his jab to set up his combinations.  Coronel kept his composure and kept coming forward landing some solid shots of his own.  The pace picked up in the 2nd round with the heavy handed Coronel coming forward forcing Webb to fight him off.  Webb would get off some nice combinations but Coronel was landing the harder shots. Close 2nd round.  One round a piece going into the 3rd and final round. Webb started the round throwing punches but Coronel’s thunderous shots were finding their mark. Webb would receive 3 standing 8 counts in the 3rd forcing the referee to stop the fight. NYPD vs LASD/LAPD will square off Friday night in the 2nd annual Knocking Out Autism Boxing Event. The event takes place Friday night June 19, 2015 at the Lexington Ave Armory 26 Street, Lexington Ave, New York. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are $25.00.

Gleason’s Gym

NYDSC_7082 (800x529)PD Boxing coach Lt. Dave Siev took Team LAPD and LASD to  Gleason’s Boxing Gym while they were in New York for the NYPD vs LA boxing event. Gleason’s Gym is synonymous with boxing and was founded by Peter Gagliardi, a former bantamweight, who changed his name to Bobby Gleason. The gym moved to Manhattan and then to Brooklyn. Gleason’s is now DSC_7078 (800x502)owned by Bruce Silverglade. Names like Jake LaMotta Muhammad Ali, Ray Leonard, and Mike Tyson have trained at Gleason’s Gym.  The reputation of the champion boxers it produced earned Gleason’s Gym world-renowned appeal as the pinnacle of excellence in boxing.  Gleason’s Gym is located at 77 Front Street in Brooklyn, New York right under the Brooklyn Bridge.

DSC_5552 (531x800)World Champion Mark Breland attended the LA vs NYPD Battle of the Badges event June 19, 2015 at the Lexington Avenue Armory, New York. Breland is a former 2X World Champion who won five New York Golden Gloves Titles and a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics. Breland compiled an impressive amateur record of 110–1 before turning pro in 1984. In 1987, Breland won the vacant WBA Welterweight Title but lost it to Marlon Starling. In 1989, Breland again won the vacant WBA Welterweight Title and made three successful title defenses before losing it to Aaron Davis in 1997. Breland retired with a professional record of 35–3–1 (25 KOs). Currently, Beland is the boxing trainer of the undefeated WBC Heavyweight World Champion Deontay Wilder.
