UCA #1 Jr Welterweight BJ Adkins (179) (1)

The UCA #1 ranked Jr Welterweight BJ Adkins, Raleigh County Sheriff Dept (West Virginia) was scheduled to fight on the NorCal Battle of the Badges card in Sacramento Saturday October 6, 2018, unfortunately the event was canceled. Having never been to Sacramento, Adkins decided to make the trip anyway. While he was in Sacramento in addition to sight seeing he had an opportunity to workout at Newcastle Ringside Gym. Adkins plans to return to California Saturday, April 6, 2019 when he takes on 2nd ranked Devon Dejoie, U.S. Navy for the UCA Jr Welterweight Championship Title at the Central California Battle of the Badges event at the Hanford Civic Auditorium.

Fight fans if you have never seen Aurelio Vasquez, LAPD fight prepare yourself to see an all action edge of your seat battle. The former #1 ranked title challenger will take on Police Olympic Gold Medalist Brian Petrella, Pasadena Police Dept at the Fight for Life event Friday November 16, 2018 at Pacific Palms Resort Hotel. Vasquez is never in a boring fight and with 3 Fight of the Night awards under his belt we are in for a treat. Doors open at 5 pm first punch thrown at 7 pm. Tickets will be sold at the door. Proceeds benefit the City of Hope Children’s Hospital.

Alan Kemp first entered a boxing gym at the age of 8 after winding up on the losing end of several skirmishes with bullies in his tough Buffalo, New York neighborhood. His father Al, a former boxer and experienced trainer, thought it time for his young son to learn how to defend himself. Under his watchful eye and careful tutelage, Alan spent the next years transforming himself from a slight boy into a fine practitioner of what his father called the “Sweet Science” – or, the Art of Boxing.

By the time he was 15, Alan had won the first of three Golden Gloves Boxing Championships. As a two-time Open Class Champion he competed in two National Golden Gloves tournaments and went on to claim 45 wins in 52 boutFullSizeRender (2)s during a six year Amateur career. Eventually becoming a Professional Middleweight standout, Kemp attained a record of 12 victories and 2 defeats, scoring 11 knockouts. His two losses coming from battles with former National Amateur Champion, Morris Jordan and Olympic Gold Medal Winner, Ronnie Harris.

Kemp was inducted into the Buffalo Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011 and has been a USA Boxing Certified Coach in Southern California for 10 years. He has coached boxers at No Limits, American Boxing Gym, LA Boxing, South Coast Martial Arts/Walking Tall Foundation, Grampas Boxing Club and others. Kemp currently trains Amateur and Professional boxers, including Orange County’s Chris Dubiansky, the UCA Super Heavyweight Champion and Daniel Kim, the 2012 National Invitational Blue & Gold Novice Light Welterweight Champion and popular local Professional.

Four LAPD fighters that will be competing in the Fight for Life event participated in a media workout Saturday at the La Habra Boxing Club in anticipation of their upcoming bouts. Aaron Tolliver, Manuel Mendieta  Humberto Moreno and Gabriel Flores showcased their skills and spoke with confidence about their upcoming fights.  Once the fighters warmed up they took turns getting in the ring. They didn’t know how many rounds they were doing or who they were sparring against, all they knew is this is how you prepare for battle. The fighters were thrown in with professional fighters under the watchful eye of trainer Bryan Arreola. The fighters held their own against the more experienced pros. With black eyes, bloody noses, bruised ribs and 26 days until fight time these guys can’t let up. On November 16, 2018 Humberto Moreno will take on the undefeated Champion Kellen Kramer, BGPD for the UCA Middleweight title. Stablemate Gabriel Flores will square off with 3X Police Olympic Gold Medalist Jorge Caamal, LASD for the UCA Light Heavyweight title. Mendieta  and Tolliver, will be make their ring debut on the undercard. The Fight for Life event takes place Friday, November 16, 2018 at the Pacific Palms Hotel and Resort. Doors open at 5 pm show starts at 7 pm.
