UCA Fighter Profile: Roy Bohannan – Lemoore Police Department

When Roy Bohannan steps into the ring for his UCA debut, he’ll be entering unfamiliar territory, but he’s embracing the challenge head on. A police officer with the Lemoore Police Department for the past three years, Bohannan has spent months preparing himself physically and mentally for the biggest test of his athletic career.

Growing up, Bohannan competed in football as a linebacker and also played basketball, developing the competitive mindset and toughness that now serve him well in boxing. His introduction to combat sports came through a partner and coach at the Lemoore Police Department who sparked his interest in stepping into the ring.

While his only previous combat sports experience was basic jiu-jitsu training at the police academy, Bohannan was motivated to compete because he wanted to challenge himself and try something completely new.

To prepare for his first fight, Bohannan has been training since January at Sober Joe Boxing Academy under the guidance of coach Joseph Hernandez. Training three days a week, his focus has been on sharpening his counterboxing skills, developing effective combinations, and building the conditioning necessary for the demanding sport of boxing.

“The biggest challenge has definitely been getting into shape,” Bohannan admits. “Boxing is a next level amount of cardio.”

Despite being new to the sport, Bohannan believes his strengths will be his jab and ability to counter effectively when the action heats up on fight night.

When asked who has played the biggest role in helping him prepare, the answer came quickly.

“Joseph Hernandez. He continued to push me to get better no matter how tired I got.”

As for his prediction?

“It’s going to be a good match.”

On fight night, Roy Bohannan will put months of hard work to the test as he makes his long awaited UCA debut and looks to make a statement in the Super Heavyweight division.
