Five UCA Champions were crowned Saturday night, April 9th at the Hanford Civic Auditorium. The first title fight of the night featured the Monroe Louisiana Fire Captain, James Moore vs Michael Banks, CDCR, CCC for the Masters UCA Heavyweight Championship Title. Last year Moore traveled to California to take on Bryan Williams, Fresno Police Dept. for the UCA Title and would lose a very close decision. Williams has since retired after 25 fights and over 20 years of competing. Moore knew the only way to take it out of the judge’s hands is by knockout, and that’s what he did. When the bell sounded both fighters came forward throwing leather. Moore struck first with a straight right hand that landed on the button. Banks would hit the canvas and make it back to his feet but the referee did not feel Banks could continue and ended the bout at 1:29 of the 1st rd. And the new…Masters UCA Heavyweight Champion… James Moore, Monroe Louisiana Fire Dept.
The second UCA Title fight of the night featured the #1 ranked Hector Mendoza, LAPD vs Abran Rodriguez, LASD for the UCA Middleweight Championship Title fight. When the bell sounded to start the fight Mendoza took control of the fight setting the pace and controlling the action. Rodriguez was a game fighter and stood in front of Mendoza and took everything he had and gave some back. The commanding Mendoza never let up he continued to pressure, landing to the body and head with razor sharp accuracy. Mendoza has a calmness to him in the ring. He knows how to create openings, he moves around well, and throws a variety of punches from the southpaw and conventional stance. From Mendoza’s performance Saturday night he may be a champion for a long time. After three championship rounds Mendoza would be announced the winner…… and the new UCA Middleweight Champion Hector Mendoza, Los Angeles Police Dept.
Just days before Nate Osborn, CHP and Travis Tilton, Sugar Creek, Illinois Fire Dept. were set to clash for the Masters UCA Super Cruiserweight Championship title fight Osborn suffered an injury and was forced to pull out of the fight. While Tilton was in flight to California, Chuck Pfau, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Dept. was asked to step in. Pfau is a grinder and always in shape and when presented with the challenge he couldn’t turn it down. With 3 days’ notice Pfau accepted the fight with Tilton and a great title fight was made. When the bell sounded to start the fight the fans were treated to some tremendous action. The first round was fought at a fast pace as both fighters came forward looking to break the other man’s will. Pfau continued to pressure Tilton throughout the fight and never stopped risking himself in pursuit of the win. After 3 hard fought rounds Pfau would emerge with the win….and the new Masters UCA Super Cruiserweight Champion.
The night’s main attraction featured Sean Johnson, CDCR, Kern Valley State Prison vs Anthony Deshautelle, Alexandria Police Dept. for the Master UCA Super Heavyweight Championship Title. When the bell sounded to start the action both fighters met in the center of the ring with the intention of making a statement that they are the best fighter in the Super Heavyweight division. For 3 championship rounds Johnson and Deshautelle exchanged punches. This was a very close fight between two equally skilled fighters. The decision would be left in the judges hands. And the new…Masters UCA Super Heavyweight Champion, Sean Johnson, CDCR, KVSP.
