Dylan Hicks, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept seems to possess championship potential and is prepared to make a huge statement next Saturday night and put himself in position to fight for a title. To get to the top of the division he will have to get through Marcel Hernandez, CDCR Avenal State Prison. Hicks answered a few questions about training camp, preparation, stablemates and his prediction for the fight.

UCA – How has training camp been preparing for your fight with Hernandez?

DH – Training camp for this fight has been going extremely well. The chemistry between my coach (fighter/trainer Abran Rodriguez) and I has reached a higher level and I find that I’m able to box better than I ever have before.

UCA – How many days a week are you training?

DH – I’m taking Hernandez very seriously so I’m training about 5-6 times a week

UCA – How often are you sparring?

DH – I’ve been sparring a steady 2-3 times a week on average

UCA – Who are some of your stablemates or sparring partners for this training camp?

DH – I’m training with fighters from LASD, Burbank PD, and CO’s from the Antelope Valley, with the majority being heavyweights. Fighters like April Fonseca, Darnell Strigglers, Lance Martinez, Manuel Martinez and others.

UCA – Aside from training at Brickhouse Boxing Gym have you trained or sparred at any other gyms?

DH – Other than Brickhouse I spend a lot of time at our local gym next to the Wayside Jail in Castaic, with the LASD Boxing Team.

UCA – When is your last day of sparring?

DH – As far as hard sparring, the last day will be early next week. I usually let my coach do the planning as far as my training. He always knows what’s good for me as far as what I need to work on and spend my time developing.

UCA – Do u have a prediction for your fight with Hernandez?

DH – As far as a prediction for the fight, I’m always eager for a finish. My last fight was a TKO victory for me and I’m looking for another one. However I’m fully prepared for a 3 round war with Hernandez, and I know he’s coming for the same thing.
