Dreamland Boxing (139)Long time coach and owner of Dreamland Boxing in San Jose California Sgt. David Neeleman, USMC passed away yesterday. Mr Neeleman, who is fondly known as Coach Sarge, trained professional and amateur fighters. He was a man of dignity who believed in honesty, respect, and principles. He was a very warm human being who always wanted to see a fair fight and see his fighters achieve success. He was a man of his word who held fighters accountable. Sarge was a dedicated servant of the sport, who will surely be missed.  Sincerest blessings and condolences to his widow Marie, family, and his fighters. Sarge’s presence will forever vibrate in the boxing community.

Steven Lee, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department was introduced to the UCA April 11, 2015 when he traveled from Wichita Kansas to compete in the California Battle of the Badges. Lee squared off with Zachary Farris, California Highway Patrol in a battle of welterweights. Both fighters showed their warrior spirit and refused to back down in a very competitive action filled fight. Lee and Farris would earn the UCA Golden Fists award. An award given to a fighter who has the skills and characteristicimagejpeg_0s of becoming a champion. Lee has been with the Sedgwick Sheriff’s Dept. seven years and has competed in Battle of the Badges events in California, Missouri, Kansas, Texas and Louisiana. By competing in charity events and representing his department Lee shows his son the importance of giving back and helping others. Lee is more than a fighter, he is a deputy and a devoted father to his son. He his committed to being a role model and setting a good example for his son by the way he carries himself.  Lee told himself the day his son was born, “I will do everything I can to show him that there are still good people in the world and that I am accomplishing what I said and that I will continue to represent my commitment to him and to the Sheriff’s Office in and out of the ring. As well as helping as many people I can along my way.” Lee’s next fight is against the UCA Jr Middleweight Interim Champion Chris Martinez, Fresno PD August 15, 2015 in the Louisiana Battle of the Badges.

Both fighters have been training hard to put on an impressive performance in front of their fans at the Brawl at City Hall boxing event. Mendoza and Mirage have received great work from top quality fighters at the City of Angels Boxing Gym. Both fighters had the opportunity to work with the UCA Jr Middleweight State Champion Dusty Rodriguez, Santa Monica FD.  Having a fighter like Rodriguez to work with gives Mendoza and Dusty and Q (2)Mirage the opportunity to measure themselves against the best and feel what it’s like to compete against the speed, reflexes and knowledge of a champion. On Saturday July 18, 2015 Super Middleweight #5 Hector Mendoza, LAPD will lock horns with Kyle Ferrari, West Covina PD. The main event features a high stakes fight between #1 ranked Quincy Mirage, LAPD vs.#2 Ricky Seward, Big Bear City FD. The undFullSizeRender(9)ercard is full of exciting fights. Kicking off the show will be  a battle of “Fight of the Night” winners #3 Dre Fonseca, LAPD vs #4 Marina Lizarraga, LASD  in a repeat or revenge fight. Another exciting matchup features two elite fighters going head to head when #1 Daniel Ramirez, LAPD  takes on #2 Jose Corral, LASD in a battle of Jr Welterweights. FullSizeRenderThe most anticipated show of the year lost its battle with mother nature on Saturday. Due to rain and the safety of the fighters the Brawl at City Hall was canceled. Alex Brenes, owner of City of Angels boxing opened the gym doors and the fighters and fans piled in. Six out of the nine originally scheduled fights took place at the gym. #1 Guillermo Garcia, #6 Aldo Rodriguez, #5 Hector Mendoza and Louis Garcia of LAPD kept the crowd excited by defeating their opponents. #1 Ray Encinas, LAPD lost by decision to civilian fighter Ivan Beltran. The most exciting fight of the night went to Hector Mendoza vs Kyle Ferrari, West Covina PD they fought for three nonstop rounds and picked up “Fight of the Night” honors.  The main event featured #1 ranked Quincy Mirage, LAPD vs #2 Ricky Seward, Big Bear City FD. Mirage would defeat Seward by unanimous decision and pick up the biggest win of his career and keep his position at the top of the Middleweight division.

Lewis defeated Mitchell Sipe Bakersfield by guillotine choke in the 1st rd. Lewis continues to pile up wins and looks to stay busy in Boxing Muay Thai and MMA before turning pro.

heatherHeather “The Heat” Hardy  was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. A single mom, who began training at Gleason’s Gym to get back in shape. In 2012 Hardy won the NYC Golden Gloves Featherweight title and was awarded the honor of “Best Female Boxer of the Tournament.” Shortly after winning the Golden Gloves Hardy turned pro. Three fighters from California will make the journey to Louisiana to test their skills against the best fighters Louisiana has to offer.  One of the bouts will feature a matchup between two action fighters. UCA Jr Middleweight interim Champion Chris Martinez, Fresno Police Dept. vs UCA Golden Fists award winner Steven Lee, Sedgwick Sheriff’s Dept. Also making the trip will be the former UCA #1 ranked Jorge Caamal, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept. squaring off with fan favorite Rodney Moore, West Monroe Fire Dept. The 3rd California fighter on the card will be 6th ranked UCA “Fight of the Night” winner John Henderson, Hanford Police Dept. vs Austin Tull, Shreveport Fire Dept. The Louisiana Battle of the Badges takes place Saturday August 15, 2015 at the Fant Ewing Coliseum University of Louisiana.
