The reigning and defending UCA Super Cruiserweight Champion, Joshua Robles, LAPD, is vacating his  title in pursuit of becoming the first 3 division champion. This daring move sets the stage for an electrifying rematch with the only man to ever beat him, the undefeated #1 ranked UCA Light Heavyweight, Ryan Ramirez, LAFD.

Their previous encounter in the LA Battle of the Badges on September 15, 2023 saw Robles shed 26 pounds to enter the Light Heavyweight division, resulting in a closely contested battle where Ramirez claimed the victory, handing Robles his first defeat.

Will Joshua Robles continue his quest to conquer 3 divisions?

Today marks the start of most training camps for the Central California Battle of the Badges on Saturday, April 27, 2024. With 117 days until fight time, there are 117 opportunities to get in better shape, sharpen skills, improve mental toughness and push harder than yesterday. Make the days count.

Training camp is a relentless pursuit of excellence. It is about pushing the body beyond its perceived limits, day after day. Whether it is refining technique, increasing stamina, or mastering the mental aspects of the sport, every session is a step closer to becoming a better fighter.

Repetition is the key to mastery. In camp, fighters understand the value of honing their technique relentlessly. Whether it is perfecting a jab, working on footwork, or enhancing defensive skills, the commitment to repetition builds muscle memory, ensuring that movements become second nature in the heat of battle.

Training camp is not only a physical test but a mental one. The ability to stay focused, block out distractions, and maintain a winning mindset is honed during these challenging days. Visualization, mental toughness, and resilience become as vital as the physical drills.

As the countdown continues, each passing day holds the promise of progress. The culmination of sweat, sacrifice, and dedication converges on fight night. Those who have endured the rigors of training camp step into the ring ready to showcase the results of relentless preparation. With 117 days until fight time, every decision, every repetition, and every ounce of effort will contribute to the transformation from athlete to a warrior ready for battle.

In a shocking upset Priscilla Valdovinos, Lindsay Police Dept suffers her first defeat. The undefeated (4-0) #1 ranked Valdovinos was outpointed by unranked Leslie Martinez, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept.  A lot of credit to Martinez who made her ring debut against the 4 fight veteran. The always exciting Darnell Strigglers, LASD did not fight Saturday night. His fight was canceled due to a weight class issue.

The SoCal Battle of the Badges returned to the Pechanga Casino and Resort Saturday June 3, 2023 for an explosive night of boxing.

UCA Lightweight Fight
Krystle Jordan-Le, San Diego Police Dept vs Katrina Aveno. Jordan-Le made her ring debut against a very skilled fighter. She showed good fundamentals and composure in her first fight. Jordan-Le would have her moments throughout the fight but Aveno was too sharp and too experienced for the new fighter. The fight would go the distance and Aveno would pick up the unanimous division win.

UCA Heavyweight Fight
James Dorris, IRC vs Chris Dubiansky, Camp Pendleton Fire Dept. Dubiansky is known as a quick starter and when the bell rang the high volume puncher zeroed in on his target. Dorris may have been caught off guard or expected a feel out period.  Once Dubiansky found his range he let the punches fly. The first combination landed by the double champ forced the referee to step in and give Dorris a standing 10 count. Dubiansky smelled blood and went in for the kill. He threw another flurry of punches that would send Dorris to the canvas. The referee stepped in and stopped the contest halfway through the 1st round. Dubiansky winner by 1st rd TKO.

UCA Light Heavyweight Fight
2nd ranked Kevin Fredrick, Cal Fire San Diego vs Corey Flores. The undefeated Fredrick had a lot of hype entering this fight. If he could  sneak past the crafty Flores he would position himself for a title fight. Fredrick came out in the first round blazing. He couldn’t miss, landing everything he threw. Fredrick would force the referee to give Flores 2 standing 10 counts in the 1st round.

What a round for Fredrick, the hype is real.  When Flores came out for the 2nd round he was a different fighter. He found his rhythm, he used a variety of punches and movement to keep Fredrick guessing on what was coming next. Flores would return the favor and score 2 standing 10 counts of his own in the 2nd rd. One round a piece going into the 3rd. Half way through the 3rd round Fredrick showed signs of slowing down.  Before the round ended Flores would score another standing 10 count and that would seal the win. Flores winner by decision.

Masters UCA Welterweight Title Fight 3rd ranked Denise Guerrero, San Bernardino Police Dept vs #1 ranked Elise Garcia, Long Beach Police Dept. This was an all action fight from bell to bell between two evenly matched fighters. Guerrero and Garcia showed great skills using the entire ring to set up attacks. They showed great balance and footwork while pivoting, countering and slipping punches. When the final bell sounded, Garcia earned her win on the scorecards with her lead right crosses, length and distance control.

And The New….Masters UCA Welterweight Champion Elise Garcia, Long Beach Police Dept.

UCA Jr Middleweight Fight
3rd ranked Kellen Kramer, Bell Gardens Police Dept vs Anthony Parks. Kramer and Parks are known for being involved in action packed fights. This fight would be no different. These warriors battled from bell to bell.  This was a tightly contested three-round affair that left the judges divided. Ultimately, Parks had his hand raised after securing a split decision win.

UCA Jr Middleweight Title Fight
2nd ranked Dylan Hicks, LASD vs Aidan Nolasco, Long Beach Police Dept. Nolasco put on an absolutely masterful performance defeating Hicks by 3rd round TKO. It has been said, once you become a champion you instantly become a better fighter.  This is certainly true for Nolasco. On April 15, 2023 Nolasco defeated Manuel Maldonado, Burbank Police Dept by split decision to capture the UCA Jr Middleweight title. 49 days later Nolasco is back in the ring defending his title against Hicks,

Since suffering his first and only loss to the undefeated UCA #1 ranked Middleweight Chad Madrid, Santa Monica Police Dept Nolasco has reeled off four straight wins that include, #4 Kramer, #3 Hicks, and #2 Maldonado. Needless to say that is a murderous row of fighters Nolasco has faced in his 5 fight career.

What is next for Aidan Nolasco? It’s obvious the fight most boxing fans want to see is Nolasco vs the former champion #1 ranked Jesse Zuniga, Hemet Police Dept.  Details are still being worked out for a date and location for this highly anticipated matchup.

Masters UCA Welterweight Fight
#2 Bakak Izadeseta, CDCR – Chino State Prison vs #1 Ancel Patricio, Riverside Sheriff’s Office.  More often than not in a rematch the fighter who won the first time around scores another victory.  Not in this case, after 7 years Zadseta was able to exact sweet revenge over Patricio by 2nd  rd TKO.

The SoCal Battle of the Badges returns to Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA Saturday June, 2023.

This mega event will feature a UCA Championship Double Header. First up will be the newly crowned UCA Jr Middleweight Champion Aidan Nolasco, Long Beach Police Dept defending his title against 2nd ranked Dylan Hicks, Los Angeles Sheriffs Dept.

Nolasco just came out of a 3 round technical war of a fight with Manual Maldonado, Burbank Police Dept on April 15, 2023 at the Central California Battle of the Badges. Nolasco will be stepping back in the ring only after 6 weeks from having the UCA Jr Middleweight belt wrapped  around his waist.  That is the quickest turn around time for any UCA Champion. LBPD Boxing Coach Walter Lavarro said, “We want to stay busy and we will fight anyone!”

Nolasco will be facing a very tough opponent in Dylan Hicks. The challenger holds 5 wins and only one loss to the former UCA Jr Welterweight Champion Marcel Hernandez, CDCR – ASP.  Hicks is a crafty fighter who has been around the fight game a long time.  Nolasco will be Hicks toughest test yet. Stablemates Strigglers, Maldonado, Martinez and LASD boxing coach Abran Rodriguez are pushing Hicks everyday in camp. “I feel good about the match up” Coach Abran said. “Now I’ve seen Nolasco fight and know what to expect. I believe there will be an upset.”  Countdown 28 days!

Three names clearly standout from the rest and you can make a strong argument for all three. What these  fighters have in common is they never shy away from tough competition. They don’t care about fighting in their opponents hometown or coming in as the B side fighter. Their mindset is different, they are fearless and believe they can beat anyone they step into the ring with.

The two Division UCA Champion Brent Bugarin, Roseville Police Dept is perhaps the GOAT. With only 3 fights Bugarin defeated the 3X Police Olympic Gold Medalist and 25 fight veteran Jorge Caamal, LASD to win the UCA Welterweight title. In an attempt to capture his 2nd title he traveled to LA to compete in the SoCal Battle of the Badges. Bugarin was scheduled to face Mike Ortiz, U.S Army for the Jr Welterweight crown. Ortiz was involved in a car accident on his way to the weigh in and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The UCA Jr Middleweight Champion and 10 fight veteran Dusty Rodriguez, Santa Monica Fire Dept was not scheduled to fight on the SoCal BOTB card but he continued to train at Knuckleheadz Boxing Gym in Ventura in hopes of getting a call. “I’m training and ready to fill in if you need me” Rodriguez said.  When Rodriguez was offered the fight with Bugarin he immediately accepted the challenge. Rodriguez weighed in at 156 pounds two pounds over the Jr Middleweight limit and Bugarin weighed in at 142 pounds. Despite giving up a 14 pound weight advantage and 6 fight experience gap,  Team Bug believed they could win. Bugarin defeated Rodriguez by unanimous decision and lifted the UCA Jr Middleweight belt from the former champion.

Bugarin vacated the Welterweight and Jr Middleweight titles after defeating Rodriguez to start a family.  He has been quoted as saying “I can’t wait until I hit 40 and get those master’s 2 & 3 weight division undisputed belts.”

The 2 division UCA Champion Chris Dubiansky, Camp Pendleton Fire Dept is perhaps the GOAT. He defeated the former 2nd ranked Albert DeLeon, CDCR – Ironwood State Prison at the SoCal Battle of the Badges to win the UCA Super Heavyweight title, but one title wasn’t enough for the newly crowned champion. Dubiansky traveled to the UCA Heavyweight Champion Marqus Blevins, Kings County Sheriff’s Office backyard and high jacked his title and undefeated record. Dubiansky recently defended his UCA Heavyweight title by handing 2nd ranked Kyle Hatcher, Livingston Police Dept his first defeat  at the Central California Battle of the Badges.

The 2 Division UCA Champion Armando Franco, Tulare Police Dept is perhaps the GOAT. Franco is a highly skilled fighter with a lot of fight experience. He won the UCA Welterweight title by defeating the battle tested veteran Justin Cortez, Baldwin Park Police Dept. Franco was scheduled to meet the 50 fight veteran Traverin Franklin, USMC but the fight was canceled due to the Covid shutdown. Franco was also set to fight Jesse Zuniga, Hemet Police Dept at the NorCal BOTB in October but the fight was cancelled. Franco earned the UCA Jr Welterweight title by defeating the fearless Marcel Hernandez, CDCR – Avenal State Prison by split decision.

The 9th Annual Central California Battle of the Badges took place Saturday night at the Visalia Convention Center. The fighters delivered on their promise to give the fans their monies worth as 18 bouts produced heart pumping action throughout the night.

The opening bout of the night featured two well schooled fighters squaring off for the Masters UCA Middleweight Championship title. Richard Reynaga, Gardena Police Dept vs Daniel Ming, Sacramento County  Public Defender’s Office.  This fight would go the distance and for 3 rounds it was a highly competitive showdown that set the tone for the rest of the night.  That’s how you open up a UCA card! When the score cards were added up Daniel Ming, Sacramento County PD’s Office would become The New… Masters UCA Middleweight Champion.

The 2nd title fight of the night featured the undefeated UCA Super Cruiserweight Champion Joshua Robles, LAPD taking on #1 ranked Manuel Galvan, CDCR – SCC in a repeat or revenge battle. After trading leather for 3 highly skilled, competitive rounds the decision would be left in the judges hands. Once again, Joshua Robles, LAPD would be declared the winner, And Still….. The UCA Super Cruiserweight Champion

The 3rd title fight of the night featured Aidan Nolasco, Long Beach Police Dept. taking on Manuel Maldonado, Burbank Police Dept for the UCA Jr Middleweight Championship title. For 3 nonstop rounds Nolasco and Maldonado brought out the best in each other. Both fighters had notable moments in a very close action packed fight. When the final bell rang the decision would be left up to the judges to decide. Nolasco would edge out a split decision win to become The New UCA Jr Middleweight Champion.

The 4th title fight of the night was highlighted by two UCA Champions daring to be great. The fearless undefeated UCA Jr Welterweight Marcel Hernandez, CDCR – Avenal State Prison made his first title defense against the former UCA Welterweight Champion Armando Franco, Tulare Police Dept. The fans were in for a treat when these warriors entered the ring. Franco has been around the game a long time and has a 20 fight experience advantage over Hernandez but it didn’t show in the ring.  Franco and Hernandez are very crafty and can do it all. Beautiful work on the inside, good use of feints, angles, good defense, and put their punches together nicely.  It was beautiful to watch. In a very close action packed fight the decision would be left up to the judges. And New….. UCA Jr Welterweight Champion Armando Franco, Tulare Police Dept. Franco becomes the 6th UCA fighter to become a 2 Division Champion.

The only female Championship Fight on the card featured Jennifer Lawrence, South Gate Police Dept vs Elise Garcia, Long Beach Police Dept. When the first bell rang to start this highly anticipated matchup both fighters demonstrated good technical skills, keeping their hands up, throwing straight punches and good footwork. Garcia may have been the faster and more experienced fighter while Lawrence was the stronger and more aggressive fighter. When the final bell rang and the scorecards were added up Jennifer Lawrence, South Gate Police Dept would be announced the winner And New…… UCA Super Welterweight Champion.

The last title fight of the night featured the UCA Jr Heavyweight Champion Efrain Moreno, LAPD making his first title defense against Juan Moreno, Tulare Police Dept. From the opening bell Efrain and Juan used their jab to try to close the gap to land punches. Both fighters displayed good footwork, head movement, and defense throughout the fight. However, neither fighter really engaged or looked to take control of the fight.  After 3 hard fought rounds the decision would be left in the judges hands. And New…… UCA Jr Heavyweight Champion…. Juan Moreno, Tulare Police Dept.

The Masters UCA #1 ranked Heavyweight Johnny Ciprian, U.S Penitentiary Atwater CA FBOP  is engaged in the toughest training camp of his career as he prepares for the rematch with the Masters UCA Heavyweight Champion Daniel Dansby, CDCR – CMF. Ciprian paid for his lack of focus in the fight against Dansby and did not fight the most intelligent fight he could have. While still maintaining that he feels he won the fight with Dansby, Ciprian acknowledges that he is going to do things differently in the rematch.

Ciprian knows he cannot afford to lose a 2nd fight to Dansby. For that reason he is taking the April 15th fight very seriously.  Ciprian switched trainers and started his training immediately after the loss. He listens to everything his coach Mauricio Lopez, Rise Above Boxing Gym in Turlock has to say.  Coach Lopez and Ciprian are studying the fight and coming up with a winning strategy.  Coach Lopez is also taking Ciprian to different gyms for sparring and training. “The loss to Dansby made me reflect on what I need to do and what it will take to be a champion” Ciprian said “I know what I must do and what my coach expects from me.  I’m ready for the rematch for the title and excited to open the Central California Battle of the Badges card with a knockout victory.”

When the Robles vs Galvan Rematch was announced Boxing News predicted it to be the 2023 UCA Fight of the Year.

The undefeated UCA Super Cruiserweight Champion Joshua Robles, LAPD is set to make his first title defense. Riding a 3 fight win streak, Robles is locked in and ready to hand the #1 ranked Manual Galvan, CDCR- SCC his 2nd loss.

The title challenger has other plans. The first meeting was a very close tactical chess type of fight that could have gone either way. Team Galvan feel they have made the necessary adjustments in camp to take the belt and undefeated record from Robles in the rematch.
Robles and Galvan are dangerous and intelligent fighters and have power the fans will feel in their seats.

Will Galvan hand Robles his first defeat and take his belt?
Will Robles remain perfect and continue his quest to be a 3 division champion?
Those questions will be answered Saturday night.
