The Los Angeles Fire Dept Boxing Team is full of young hungry lions who could possibly take over six weight divisions. This talented group of fighters not only bring technical expertise to the team, but they also contribute passion, a strong work ethic, and strive to be Champions. Starting with the Jr Middleweight division is #2 Marco Franco the undefeated World Police and Fire Olympic Gold Medalist. Next is the undefeated 3rd ranked Middleweight Tyrone Hurst. A tall athletic, slick boxer with speed and power just needs more ring time. Sitting at #5 is Super Middleweight Bryce Gutierrez who seems to have all the tools just lacks experience. Sitting at #3 in the Light Heavyweight quick, pressure power puncher Ryan Ramirez who just lacks experience. The undefeated 2nd ranked Cruiserweight and super athlete Sean Baker seems to have it all, just waiting for his shot. Sitting at the top of the Heavyweight division is Zane Archer who seems to be a natural, just needs more ring time. The LAFD team is lead by Coach Adelino Jaminal who knows how to motivate, challenge and draw out the best in the team. This team seems to have all the ingredients for success. Boxing fans filled the Shaun Diamond Plaza in Pomona, CA Saturday, August 17, 2019 for the 911 Fight Night “UCA Triple Header.” The first title fight of the night featured, from Stockton, CA, the undefeated UCA Super Welterweight Champion April Martinez, CDCR – CHCF defending her title against hometown favorite Alison Ziolkowski, Care Ambulance (Paramedic). When the bell sounded Martinez came out with good composure and started to put her punches together nicely.  She was using all her tools: angles, feints, jabs, crosses, and working the body, but Alison wasn’t going anywhere. She absorbed the punches and fired back with her own. Martinez turned up the heat in the 2nd round. Alison did her best to keep Martinez off, 30 seconds left in the 2nd round the referee stepped in and put an end to the fight. And still……the UCA Super Welterweight Champion April Martinez, CDCR CHCF. Martinez will be back in the ring on October 5, 2019 when she makes her 2nd title defense against Jessica Segovia, Banning Police Dept. at the NorCal Battle of the Badges in Sacramento.

The second title fight of the night featured a Repeat or Revenge match-up between the Champion Aurelio Vazquez, LAPD vs #1 Jack Rivera, Sac City Fire Dept. In a rematch does the fighter who won the first time have an advantage? Does the winner have more confidence because he already beat his opponent?  Or does the fighter who was defeated work harder, correct mistakes, change tactics, and up his level of conditioning to be more prepared? Revenge can be a powerful, motivating force in training camp. When the bell rang to start this highly anticipated rematch Vazquez and Rivera picked up where they left off 4 months ago.  It was a fast paced fight fought at close quarters. These guys don’t need a ring they can fight in a phone booth. Both fighters did a good job of finding openings to land punches. Vazquez started to slow down in the 2nd round and Rivera still had gas in the tank. One round a piece going into the 3rd.  When the bell sounded to start the 3rd round the champion knew his title was in jeopardy and went right after Rivera forcing him to the ropes. Whoever wins the 3rd round wins the fight. Both fighters were throwing and landing punches until the final bell. Once the score cards were added up we had a winner.….And still…. the Masters UCA Jr Cruiserweight Champion Aurelio Vazquez, LAPD.

The Champion Christian Pharo, San Diego Fire Dept Lifeguard vs #1 Dusty Rodriguez , Santa Monica Fire Dept. featured two fundamentally sound highly skilled fighters in an all-time great war for the UCA Jr Middleweight crown. It doesn’t get any better than this. Both fighters are at the top of their game and each have coaches with World Championship corner experience. Rodriguez trains out of Knuckleheadz Boxing in Ventura, CA under coach Joe “Hoss” Janik. Pharo trains at Pacific Training Center in San Diego under coach Eddie Roa. Both fighters spar with professional fighters most notably Pharo trains with the former undefeated WBO Jr Welterweight Champion Maurice Hooker. Pharo even got in a couple rounds with the Champion during training camp. When the bell sounded the fighters were anxious to get started. They met in the center of the ring and started throwing crisp, fast, hard punches. Pharo and Rodriguez looked like pros in there showing great balance rhythm and timing  Tough round to score. Team Pharo made an adjustment in the 2nd round. He used his speed, reach and footwork to move in and out of range of his dangerous opponent. Pharo continued to box with skill, discipline and intelligence in the 3rd. Rodriguez would land some nice body shots but it wasn’t enough to stop the champion. Pharo was the superior boxer and  executed a winning strategy to retain his title. And still…the UCA Jr Jr Middleweight Champion Christain Pharo.

One boxing adage would have you believe that a champion isn’t a real champion until they defend their title. Congratulations to the reigning and defending UCA Champions April Martinez, Aurelio Vazquez and Christian Pharo. They accomplished something a small percentage of fighters ever will, and nobody can take that away from them. 

The undefeated UCA Jr Cruiserweight Champion Aaron Benoit, CDCR CHCF traveled from Sacramento to support his stablemates Jack Rivera and April Martinez at the 911 Fight Night event in Pomona CA.

All weights were made for tomorrow night’s highly anticipated UCA Championship Triple Header. 

The two seasoned UCA Jr Middleweights came in under the contracted weight of 154 pounds. The UCA Jr Middleweight Champion Christain Pharo, San Diego Fire Dept Lifeguard will square off with  #1 Dusty Rodriguez, Santa Monica Fire Dept in a high level boxing matchup. Fight fans there are levels to this game and these guys are at the top. Both fighters train in a pro gym and sparred with professional fighters to prepare for this fight. The only female fight on the card features two female warriors. Fighting out of the blue corner will be the undefeated UCA Super Welterweight Champion April Martinez, CDCR CHCF who looks to prove once again she is the best Super Welterweight in the country. Staring across the ring from her will be Allison Ziolkowski, Care Ambulance who looks to pull off the upset of the year. 

Its Repeat or Revenge when the Masters UCA Jr Cruiserweight Champion Aurelio Vazquez, LAPD puts his title on the line against #1 Jack Rivera, Sacramento City Fire Dept. The Masters UCA Super Heavyweight title was on the line tonight as part of the SoCal Battle of the Badges card. Mario Alonzo, CDCR Centinela State Prison took on David Lomeli, CDCR Ironwood State Prison. Alonzo has been chasing the title and didn’t waste anytime going after it. When the bell rang Alonzo jumped on Lomeli looking to end it quick. Every punch thrown had very bad intentions on it. Half way through the 1st round Referee Tom Taylor stopped the action and walked Lomeli across the ring to the Doctor. After checking Lomeli the Doctor advised Taylor to end the fight. And the new…Masters UCA Super Heavyweight Champion Mario Alonzo, CDCR Centinela State Prison.

The UCA #1 ranked Masters Super Heavyweight Mario Alonzo, Centinela State Prison was sent to Sacramento to attend Leadership training this week for work. Mario is preparing for the biggest fight of his career and did not want to break training camp. The owner of California Boxing and MMA, Gil Zaragoza opened his gym for Alonzo to train for the week. Alonzo flew in Sunday night from San Diego and was in the gym on Monday. Alonzo will go toe to toe with decorated amateur David Lomeli, Ironwood State Prison for the Masters UCA Super Heavyweight Title at the SoCal Battle of the Badges Friday February 8, 2019 at Agua Caliente Resort & Casino.

The SoCal Battle of the Badges today announced that the UCA Jr Middleweight Champion Christian Pharo, San Diego Fire Lifeguard will not be fighting. Pharo injured his rib sparring last night. He left the hospital this morning with a broken rib and has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled UCA Jr Middleweight Championship Title fight with #1 ranked Dusty Rodriguez, Santa Monica Fire Dept February 8, 2019. “I’m so disappointed” Pharo said. “I was on point with my training and feeling really good. now this.” Pharo went on to say he will give Dusty his shot at the title later this year and he was sorry he had to pull out of the February 8th title defense.

2018 was an eventful year that lived up to all expectations. The fighters delivered as promised in a year that featured equal amounts of brawling, boxing and then some. As the year comes to a close let’s take a look back at the stories that shaped Public Safety boxing in 2018.

The events are held in some of the best venues California has to offer. Mr. Penn has a solid promotional background and a reputation for selling out each event he puts on. He is credited with re-energizing public safety boxing.

In 5 short years the Central California Battle of the Badges has become the most competitive must see events. Year after year each card is filled with an all-star cast of fighters.  The event has grown so much that it will be looking for a bigger venue in 2020.  

UCA Fighter of the Year – Marqus Blevins, Kings County Sheriff’s Dept.
A fighter who directly impacts Public Safety boxing by the way he/she performs in the ring. A fighter who stood out from the rest and proved they are the best by challenging and defeating anyone who was put in front of them. The undefeated UCA Heavyweight Champion Marqus Blevins defeated Josh Webb, California Highway Patrol to pick up the UCA Super Cruiserweight title and become the second fighter to hold 2 titles simultaneously.

Honorable Mention – Kellen Kramer, Bell Gardens Police Department
Kellen Kramer defeated Remin Pineda, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept. at the 911 Fight Night, Pomona CA to become the UCA Middleweight Champion. Thee months later Kramer defended his title by outpointing Humberto Moreno, Los Angeles Police Dept. at the Fight for Life Event, Los Angeles.

UCA Coach of the Year – Mark Irwin
A coach who has the knowledge and experience to unlock a fighters true potential and mold them into a champion. There are a lot of critical factors that make a champion, having a great coach is the most important one. Mark Irwin is the coach of the undefeated reigning and defending UCA Middleweight Champion Kellen Kramer, Bell Gardens Police Dept. Mark continues to make all the right decisions as he continually expertly guides the career of his young champion.

Memorable Moments of the Year
April Martinez, CDCR, CHCF faced Charde Stevens, Fresno SD in the NorCal Battle of the Badges Main Event for the UCA Super Welterweight title. Martinez would capture the title and become the new UCA Super Welterweight Champion.

The reigning and defending UCA Welterweight Champion Mike Delery, LAPD tested himself by moving up a division to pick up his 2nd title but fell just short of claiming the UCA Jr Middleweight title as he dropped a split decision to Christian Pharo San Diego Fire Lifeguard. Fight for Life, Los Angeles.

The UCA Heavyweight Champion Marqus Blevins, Kings County Sheriff’s Office attempted to do what no other fighter has done before. Blevins moved down to the Super Cruiserweight division to take on #1 ranked Josh Webb, CHP for the Super Cruiserweight title at the Central California Battle of the Badges, Hanford.  Blevins defeated Webb by decision to become the first fighter to hold two titles simultaneously.

Super Heavyweight Craig Hamblin – CDCR-Solano State Prison picked up his first win at the NorCal Battle of the Badges June 30, 2018. The big question surrounding the fight was, Will Hamblin’s “O” go? Hamblin started boxing 8 years ago and unfortunately he has been on the losing end of every fight and owns a record of 0-7. Hamblin would defeat Matt Eleopoulos – Solano County DA’s Office and finally have his hand raised.

Michael Hagen (55 yrs old)(CHP) claimed the Masters UCA Light Heavyweight title with a superb win over veteran fighter Izzy Montes (52 yrs old) CDCR, CSP Sacramento at the Central California Battle of the Badges, in Hanford CA.

Gerardo Serrano (Reedley PD) squared off with Gabriel Flores (LAPD) for the UCA Jr Cruiserweight Title at the Central California Battle of the Badges, Hanford. The fight started with both fighters landing relentless blows. As the fight went on the action picked up. Half way through the 2nd round Serrano and Flores were fighting in close quarters and Flores dislocated his shoulder. The excruciating pain put Flores to the canvas. Medical staff was sent into the ring and were able to put Flores shoulder back in place. Flores immediately jumped up and said, “I’m ok, I’m ready to fight.” Unfortunately the referee already called off the fight. Serrano would become the new UCA Jr Cruiserweight Champion by 2nd rd. TKO.

2018 UCA Rumors
The reigning and defending UCA Super Heavyweight Champion Chris Dubinsky, Camp Pendleton Fire Dept. will attempt to become a two division champion when he challenges Marqus Blevins, Kings County Sheriff’s Dept. for Blevin’s UCA Heavyweight Title.

The undefeated reigning and defending UCA Middleweight Champion Kellen Kramer, Bell Gardens Police Dept. will drop down to 154lbs and fight for the Jr Middleweight Title.

The former undefeated reigning and defending UCA Jr Welterweight Champion Shant Sheklanian, CDCR, State Parole is coming out of retirement to challenge for the Welterweight Title.

The UCA Super Welterweight Champion April Martinez, CDCR, California Health Care Facility will take on the Asiah Medawar, San Bernardino Sheriff’s Dept. for Medawar’s UCA Welterweight Title.

Boxing fans have a lot to look forward to in 2019. The year promises to give the fans the matchups they desperately want to see. Title fight contracts are being drawn up for some great fights. Mike Hagen, CHP and Izzy Montes, CDCR will lace em up one more time for Hagen’s Masters UCA Light Heavyweight title. #1 ranked Roman Grider, CDCR, SATF will challenge undefeated #2 Anthony Cross, CDCR, CSP, Sac for the vacant UCA Cruiserweight title. Aurelio Vasquez, LAPD will lock horns with Jack Rivera, Sac City Fire Dept for the vacant Masters UCA Jr Cruiserweight Title. #1 ranked BJ Adkins, Raleigh County Sheriff’s Dept. The UCA #1 ranked Jr Middleweight Dusty Rodriguez, Santa Monica Fire Dept started his training camp today and brought in the UCA 2nd ranked 2017 World Police and Fire Games Gold Medalist Marco Franco LA City Fire Dept to help him prepare for the biggest fight of his career. On Friday February 8, 2019 Rodriguez will square off with the UCA Jr Middleweight Champion Christain Pharo. This is going to be a hell of a fight between two fighters who want to prove they are the best jr Middleweight in the game. The newly crowned UCA Jr Middleweight Champion Christain Pharo, San Diego Fire Dept is jumping back in the ring to defend his title against the former champion and #1 ranked Dusty Rodriguez, Santa Monica Fire Dept at the SoCal Battle of the Badges Friday February 8, 2019 at Agua Caliente Resort & Casino. The Fight for Life boxing event ended 2018 with extraordinary action.  The main event saw Christian Pharo, San Diego Fire Lifeguard capture the UCA Jr Middleweight title and the co main event featured Kellen Kramer Bell Gardens Police Dept. defending his UCA Middleweight title and keeping his perfect record intact.  The under card featured a talented cast of fighters who fans will be soon talking about.

The night started off with two fighters making their ring debut Fidel Carreno, LAPD Academy vs Charles Smith, LASD. Both guys started off slow feeling each other out. Toward the end of the round Carreno started to back Smith up and hit the target with his punches. Smith started out the 2nd round strong coming forward and landing punches of his own. Tied up 1-1 going into the 3rd. When the bell rang to start the 3rd Carreno put the pressure on Smith and Smith started to slow down half way through the round, it could be from the body work by Carreno in the 1st and 2nd rounds. This fight would go the distance and Carreno would pick up his first win by decision

The 2nd fight of the night featured a rematch between Aurelio Vasquez, LAPD vs Brian Petrella, Pasadena PD. Vasquez leads the series 1-0. When the bell rang Vasquez came out very relaxed and patient, different from the nonstop, throwing punches in bunches style we are used to. Petrella didn’t have an answer for the precise calculated Vasquez.  Petrella started to put a little heat on his punches in the 2nd rd. but couldn’t land anything clean. Down two nothing Petrella would need a knockout in the 3rd round to win. Vasquez stuck to the game plan, keeping his composure, using good footwok, a tight defense and throwing straight punches. Petrella may have been confused by Vasquez’s new style he could never really find his rhythm. Something happened during the last 15 seconds of the fight. The game plan went out the window, Vasquez and Petrella planted their feet in front of each other and started throwing lefts and rights with very bad intentions. When the bell sounded both fighters remained standing and once again Vasquez would defeat Petrella by decision.  

Bout 3: Manuel Mindieta, LAPD vs Ismael Opina, LASD featured two evenly matched fighters making their ring debut.  Even first round, Mindieta may have stolen the round in the last 10 seconds by backing Opina to the ropes with a 5 punch combination.  Opina came out in the 2nd round throwing 3 punches to every one punch thrown by Mindieta. Opina turned it up even more in the 3rd round. Both fighters showed good fundamentals but Opina was too busy.  Opina winner by decision.

Bout 4: Shawn Baker, LAFD vs Efrain Moreno, LAPD featured two skilled big men. When the bell rang Baker came out of his corner firing on both cylinders backing Moreno up with heavy leather.  Moreno used his footwork and defense to stay out of danger. Baker continued to push a fast pace in the first round, could he keep it up? Baker came out strong in the 2nd but started to fade toward the end of the end of the round. Moreno was able to establish his jab and land some clean punches.  Whoever wins the 3rd round wins the fight. Baker took full advantage of the 60 second break. He came out strong to start the 3rd round throwing punches in bunches and not giving Moreno a chance to establish his offense. Baker winner by decision.

Bout 5: featured a rematch between Daniel Rosales, LAPD and Alex Perez, La Habra Boxing Gym. Perez is a decorated amateur who is ready to turn pro. Perez won the first meeting and Rosales had revenge on his mind.  Very close 1st round with Rosales edging it out. Close 2nd round slight advantage Perez. Perez and Rosales showed high level stuff.  These guys are always in position and as soon as one of them makes a slight mistake they are ready to take advantage of it. Even fight going into the 3rd. Rosales continued to put the pressure on Perez and throw hard punches. When the last bell rang Rosales would pick up the win and even the score.

Bout 6: When two female fighters step into the ring fans can expect an all action fight and that is exactly what Kaylee Sicaros, LAPD and Destiny Moreno, LASD delivered. These ladies threw punches from bell to bell and never backed down. Moreno was a little more polished but that didn’t prevent Sicaros from backing down.  She is tough as nails and was not affected by the hard punches landed by Destiny. Kaylee is trained by Aurelio Vasquez and Quincy Mirage so you know she has to be tough. Sicaros was down two nothing going into the 3rd and continued to bring the fight to Moreno but it wasn’t enough.  Moreno was just a little bit better on this night. Moreno winner by decision.

Bout 7: Brian Smith, LASD vs Charles Medrano, LAPD featured two fighters making their ring debut. Medrano threw a good variety of punches and good counter hook. Smith had his moments in the fight landing punches of his own.  Medrano kept backing Smith up not giving him a chance to breathe.  Both fighters showed good skills in their first fight but the pressure and heavy punches thrown by Medrano was the difference. Medrano winner by decision.

Bout 8 Alberto “The Pit Bull” Tapia, USC Police Dept. vs Remin Pineda, LASD. Holy smokes they don’t call him the Pit Bull for nothing. When the bell rang Tapia jumped on Pineda and did not let up. In the 2nd round Tapia showed he can brawl and box. He used good footwork and did good work behind his jab. In the 3rd Pineda started to put the pressure back on Tapia but it was too late. Tapia winner by decision.

Bout 10: Zane Archer, LAFD vs Jose Garcia (Civilian) Archer is a hidden gem in public safety boxing. He is a heavyweight but moves like a middleweight and showed great skills in his first fight.  Garcia was waiting to land one big shot while Archer continued to throw punches and rack up points.  Archer winner by decision.

Bout 11: The UCA Light Heavyweight Title fight between Jorge Caamal, LASD and Gabriel Flores, LAPD was canceled at the weigh in but Flores still wanted to fight. In less than 24 hours an opponent was found for Flores. Civilian fighter Abraham Cruz from the LASD Century Sheriff’s Station Gym stepped up.  When the first bell rang Flores showed good footwork and used his jab like a surgical tool. He showed great composure and looked like a fighter with 20 fights. He did a good job of setting up his punches going to the body and head. Cruz was aggressive and was throwing punches with bad intentions.  This fight would go the distance and Cruz would pick up the win.

The Pacific Palms Hotel and Resort filled with several hundred fans Friday night for the Fight for Life event. 12 bouts featured fighters from LASD, LAPD, LAFD, Pasadena PD, and Bell Gardens PD. The main event showcased the UCA Welterweight Champion Mike Delery, LAPD looking to capture his 2nd title by defeating #3 Christian Pharo, San Diego Fire Dept. for the Jr Middleweight title. In the sport of boxing a fighter has to take advantage of opportunities that are given to him because they may not always be there. On the way to the top you don’t get to decide the challenges. For a fighter with ambition it is simple, take the best fights you can get, accept the challenges that offer the harshest test and the biggest reward. That is exactly what Pharo did. He was offered a title fight against the reigning and defending UCA Welterweight Champion Mike Delery and jumped on it. Pharo knew there would be no short cuts, in order to win he would have to go through the fire and sacrifice everything. He was fighting the champ in LA and he was coming in on the B side. Pharo put himself through a grueling training camp sparring with pro fighters Kevin Ottley and Maurice Hooker at PTC Boxing Gym, San Diego. “I knew Delery was tough” Pharo said. “And I prepared for a war.” When the bell sounded to start this highly anticipated showdown both fighters looked to gain a tactical advantage. Delery used his jab and controlled the first round. Pharo started to pull away in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. He stalked and backed Delery up and continued to attack the body. In order to win it all you must risk it all. After 3 rounds, he did it. Congratulations to the new UCA Jr Middleweight Champion Christian Pharo, San Diego Fire Dept. 

The co main event was a matchup between the UCA Middleweight Champion Kellen Kramer, Bell Gardens PD vs #4 Humberto Moreno, LAPD. Moreno attempted to do what no fighter has ever done before, defeat Kellen Kramer. Once the fighters touched gloves they started trading leather. It was a brutal 3 round war showcasing both fighters grit and toughness. In Kramer typical fashion he pressed the action from the first to the last bell. He never stopped risking himself in pursuit of the win. Moreno had his moments when he used his footwork and was able to separate himself from the mauling Champion. When the fighters came to the center of the ring for the decision Kramer once again proved he is unbeatable. And still….The UCA Middleweight Champion Kellen Kramer, Bell  Gardens Police Dept.  

The fighters competing in the Fight for Life event at the Pacific Palms Hotel stepped on the scale this morning to make their bouts official. Everyone hit their mark on the scale. The main event will showcase Mike Delery, LAPD meeting up with #3 Christian Pharo, San Diego Fire Dept for the UCA Jr Middleweight title. The co-main event will feature Kellen Kramer, Bell Gardens PD defending his UCA Middleweight crown against #4 Humberto Moreno, LAPD. The 3rd UCA title fight scheduled for the event between Jorge Caamal, LASD and Gabriel Flores, LAPD was scratched. Caamal was unable to make the official weigh in due to work obligations. Also in action tomorrow night will be Efrain Moreno, Daniel Rosales, Aurelio Vasquez, LAPD and Remin Pineda, LASD. The Fight for Life doors open at 5 pm with the first bout starting at 7 pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the door.

Years from now when boxing fans are talking about who were some of the greatest UCA fighters, a few factors will have to be considered. A fighters skill level, accomplishments, level of competition and who looked for challenges in other weight divisions. Throughout boxing’s rich history, some of the greatest boxing legends are multi division champions. Names like Ward, Mayweather, De La Hoya, Pacquiao, Chavez and Holyfield are fighters who were able to have success in multi weight divisions. 

The UCA has it’s boxing legends too. Years from now names like Bugarin, Mendoza, and Blevins will have to be in conversations as some of the greatest fighters due to their accomplishments in more than one weight division. On November 16, 2018 the reigning and defending UCA Welterweight Champion Mike Delery, LAPD will look to challenge himself by moving up a weight division to take on 3rd ranked Christian Pharo, San Diego Fire Dept. for the UCA Jr Middleweight Championship title. This will be no easy feat for Delery. Pharo is a naturally bigger fighter, has more experience and has been waiting for his opportunity to show everyone how good he is.  Delery is taking a big risk and could easily stay in his division and dominate for years. However one of the measures of boxing greatness has been whether or not a fighter could have success in more than one weight class. Four LAPD fighters that will be competing in the Fight for Life event participated in a media workout Saturday at the La Habra Boxing Club in anticipation of their upcoming bouts. Aaron Tolliver, Manuel Mendieta  Humberto Moreno and Gabriel Flores showcased their skills and spoke with confidence about their upcoming fights.  Once the fighters warmed up they took turns getting in the ring. They didn’t know how many rounds they were doing or who they were sparring against, all they knew is this is how you prepare for battle. The fighters were thrown in with professional fighters under the watchful eye of trainer Bryan Arreola. The fighters held their own against the more experienced pros. With black eyes, bloody noses, bruised ribs and 26 days until fight time these guys can’t let up. On November 16, 2018 Humberto Moreno will take on the undefeated Champion Kellen Kramer, BGPD for the UCA Middleweight title. Stablemate Gabriel Flores will square off with 3X Police Olympic Gold Medalist Jorge Caamal, LASD for the UCA Light Heavyweight title. Mendieta  and Tolliver, will be make their ring debut on the undercard. The Fight for Life event takes place Friday, November 16, 2018 at the Pacific Palms Hotel and Resort. Doors open at 5 pm show starts at 7 pm. 

Alan Kemp first entered a boxing gym at the age of 8 after winding up on the losing end of several skirmishes with bullies in his tough Buffalo, New York neighborhood. His father Al, a former boxer and experienced trainer, thought it time for his young son to learn how to defend himself. Under his watchful eye and careful tutelage, Alan spent the next years transforming himself from a slight boy into a fine practitioner of what his father called the “Sweet Science” – or, the Art of Boxing.

By the time he was 15, Alan had won the first of three Golden Gloves Boxing Championships. As a two-time Open Class Champion he competed in two National Golden Gloves tournaments and went on to claim 45 wins in 52 bouts during a six year Amateur career. Eventually becoming a Professional Middleweight standout, Kemp attained a record of 12 victories and 2 defeats, scoring 11 knockouts. His two losses coming from battles with former National Amateur Champion, Morris Jordan and Olympic Gold Medal Winner, Ronnie Harris.

Kemp was inducted into the Buffalo Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011 and has been a USA Boxing Certified Coach in Southern California for 10 years. He has coached boxers at No Limits, American Boxing Gym, LA Boxing, South Coast Martial Arts/Walking Tall Foundation, Grampas Boxing Club and others. Kemp currently trains Amateur and Professional boxers, including Orange County’s Chris Dubiansky, the UCA Super Heavyweight Champion and Daniel Kim, the 2012 National Invitational Blue & Gold Novice Light Welterweight Champion and popular local Professional.

The UCA #1 ranked Jr Welterweight BJ Adkins, Raleigh County Sheriff Dept (West Virginia) was scheduled to fight on the NorCal Battle of the Badges card in Sacramento Saturday October 6, 2018, unfortunately the event was canceled. Having never been to Sacramento, Adkins decided to make the trip anyway. While he was in Sacramento in addition to sight seeing he had an opportunity to workout at Newcastle Ringside Gym. Adkins plans to return to California Saturday, April 6, 2019 when he takes on 2nd ranked Devon Dejoie, U.S. Navy for the UCA Jr Welterweight Championship Title at the Central California Battle of the Badges event at the Hanford Civic Auditorium.
